Rick is director of communications at the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, an association that supports over 4,000 foundations in every state. Spanning 16 years of experience in communications, his background includes time as director of communications at the Center for Nonprofit Advancement in Washington, D.C.; seven years as a reporter and editor of new media at Congressional Quarterly; time as webmaster for major local airports; and in management of nonprofit organizations. Rick is responsible for Forum communications, including print and electronic publications, media relations, vendor and design management, internal communications, and branding. His writing has appeared in The Advocate, The Washington Blade, and Q Magazine. Rick graduated from Grinnell College with a degree in Russian, and is currently enrolled in a master’s program in communications at Johns Hopkins University in D.C. Having lived in D.C. since 1989, he has volunteered at many organizations, including NGLTF, Whitman-Walker Clinic, and other community-based groups. He has volunteered for the Reel Affirmations Film Festival since the early 1990s, including helping with film selection, marketing, operations and management; served five years as the program guide editor; founded and managed the Laugh Out Loud comedy series; and has served on the board of One In Ten since 1998, including past service on the executive committee and as board president in 2007. He’s especially fond of good chocolate, good wine, good food, a good joke, and great movies. |
