Representing Reel Affirmations and Having Fun: You
will be representing Reel Affirmations to our patrons and you will probably
be the only staff person they will meet. Please conduct yourself in a professional
manner and enjoy yourself!
Volunteer Thank Yous: As a token of our appreciation for your
assistance in making Reel Affirmations a success, each time you work
an entire shift you are entitled to a voucher for one free entry to a
film of your choice, excluding Opening and Closing Nights, and up to
three vouchers may be given. To claim your voucher, make sure that you
report to the operations manager or volunteer coordinator at the close
of your shift. Volunteers who have contributed their time prior to the
festival are also eligible for the vouchers; please contact your committee
co-chairs for more information. The vouchers are non-transferable. Please
use no more than one per screening. We ask that you do not use the voucher
during times when you are volunteering.
Customer Service, Questions and Difficult Situations: If you
encounter a question which you cannot answer or a situation you cannot
resolve, such as a difficult patron, please refer such situations to
the Reel Affirmations theater manager or staff member in charge. Please
enjoy yourself and smile.
Watching Films: Your primary focus is your volunteer job; if
you want to see a film, do not volunteer during that shift. Please use
a free ticket voucher or purchase a ticket for that film.
Scheduling: Generally, we ask that volunteers arrive at least
one and a half hours before the start of the event at which they will
be working. This allows time for everyone to arrive and to assist with
setting up. At the venues, tickets go on sale one hour before the start
of the first film of the day and patrons will come early to line up for
tickets. Usually volunteers can leave one half hour after the last film
of the day starts. If you cannot fulfill your volunteer assignment, please
contact the volunteer coordinator as soon as possible so that we can
try to fill your slot. For contact information, see below.
Attire: At the venues, festival staff and volunteers have a
standard outfit of black or dark pants with an Absolut t-shirt (to be
provided and yours to keep). Please arrive already dressed. All volunteers
related to or working with Reel Affirmations will wear visible security
badges.
Parking and transportation: Public parking is limited around
the venues. It is highly suggested to use other transportation. The Lincoln
Theatre is located directly across from the 13th Street exit of U Street/Cardozo
Metro Station (Green Line). It is also served by these Metro buses: 60,
62, 64, 67, 90, 91, 92, 93, 96, and 99. The Jewish Community Center is
located at 16th and Q Streets NW. It is served by numerous Metro buses
(see www.wmata.com).
Valuables and Personal Belongings: As we cannot ensure that
there will be a secure place for personal belongings at the venues, we
ask that you bring only what you need and that you keep all valuables
with you at all times.
